As said in my previous post, I propose a second version of my custom Marshmallow ROM for the Doogee X5, which is this time, based on the 2016.06.24 official Android 6.0 ROM. I won't give here any explanation about the flashing process, please refer to my previous post, to get all info about that…
The 2016.06.24 ROM is actually the official ROM of the Doogee X5 MAX which has been adapted to the genuine X5. Officially the ROM only supports devices with new motherboards (because there are no X5 MAX with old motherboards), but I am quite confident that the ROM can be adapted for old motherboards by simply changing the scatter file and the bootloader. But as I said in my previous post, I have no X5 with old motherboard which means that I cannot make real tests, so I need your feedback on that point.
Here are the features that I have added to the official ROM:
- The ROM is pre-rooted and SuperSU has been installed as a system app
- The stock recovery has been replaced by TWRP 3.0.2
- Two different bootloaders are provided, one for devices with the old mainboards, and another one for devices with the new mainboards (see instructions below)
The difference with the 20160617 ROM are quite small. I've noted the following changes:
- The splash screen and the bootanimation are different (colored logo on white background that spreads into dancing triangular pieces)
- The ROM includes a couple of additional system apps (that are classical with Doogee phones) : AppLock, Backup an Restore, Bagan Keyboard, DG Xender
- There is also a new item in the "Settings" menu, called "Float Gesture", that creates a floating circular menu that can be activated in any app, without going back to the home desktop. I'm not sure that I like this "feature" but you have to try.
Except of adding TWRP recovery and prerooting, I haven't made any change to the official ROM. However, I am currently building a third version, that I call "Minimal Marshmallow" where all non-mandatory system app are removed. The idea is to reduce the size of the system partition as small as I can, in order to increase the size of the data partition, so as you can install the app that you really need. I hope to go as low as 512MB for system (currently the system partition takes 1536MB) in order to increase the data by at least one additional GB. I will upload the third version as soon as it stable enough…
